What does your QR code link to?

Including a QR code on your wine label is an untapped opportunity for wine brands, but what you link that code to is what matters most.

Today's QR code experience is too generic for consumers.

I want you to think about the consumer for a moment and what they are experiencing after they scan the QR Code from your wine bottle’s label at a store shelf. Are you directing them to your website, a landing page, or a standalone mobile site?


These solutions are broad and do not cater to a specific desire or intended experience by the consumer, making them have to scroll and click around to navigate a sometime complex experience for that crucial moment at the store shelf. Or, even after the purchase, like sitting around the table having wine and a conversation with friends.


The younger generations, including Gen Z and Millennials, are at the forefront of QR code usage.

These mobile addictive individuals are not only highly familiar with QR codes, but also embrace them with open arms. However, they have high expectations on what they will experience after they scan that QR code.

When they view your label, they are looking for answers to these questions:

  • How will the wine really taste without all of the wine jargon?

  • What is their story and how does it relate to my core values?

  • What are other people like me saying about the wine?

  • What are some unexpected experiences that I can see myself in to enjoy the wine.


And, it must be a relatable story watched as a video. Not only does video capture their attention, but it also influences their purchase decisions.  In fact, 85% of Millennials are more likely to buy a product after watching a video. 

They also want their experience to be frictionless.

They get 100s of interactions throughout the day, and advertisers are going to keep interrupting them. They want real video storytelling experiences that keep them in the flow without the distraction of being interrupted with ads during the viewing moment, or a playlist of unrelated surrounding videos. Or, having to scroll, pinch and stretch, and navigate a website.

They want to just press GO, and have it happen all for them!
